| THE GIRL |
I feel as if I'm stuck in between being a child & a woman. I'm still naive & I crave innocence. And then I think about my life and remember all that I've been through and I feel old...very old. Sometimes I feel as if I've led several different lifetimes in only one lifetime. I have few friends and few people in my life that I trust. Those that I do trust with all my heart & soul, have been in my life for years. I'm shy & awkward, quiet & a bit naive and I usually get mistaken for being a witch. I keep myself at a safe distance from people in fear that I will get hurt again. Sometimes I'm not entirely honest with myself, and I'll let people walk out of my life because I've convinced myself that I don't need anybody. And I don't want that life.
I wish I was bold and daring. I wish I could take more risks and stop living in fear that someone will hurt me again. I wish I knew how to let people in...but I build up walls and facades around myself; these are my defense mechanisms. I long for true love yet I'm guarded with my feelings & tend to run away or detach if I feel myself getting too close to someone. I'm scared of allowing someone in too close and having them not value what they see, I'm scared of them abusing my trust and hurting me again. Most of all, I think I am scared of letting them see all the ugly, flawed parts of myself. People see beauty when they truly want to see it the most, but what happens when the facades begin to crumble and they begin to see all of you, even the ugly? I've known many to just walk away, and though I know it's a part of life for people to fade from each other, I don't know how I could handle another person simply just becoming a speck as they turn their back and walk away from me again. I used to think that I could be perfectly content being a hermit, with only a pen and paper by my side, though I am now beginning to wonder if being this cautious with my heart is worth all the lonely days and long nights...
I often catch myself reflecting on my life, and remembering, and reminiscing. I think somewhere along the lines, I've lost the "old me" and evolved into this stranger, this person I see in the mirror everyday and do not really know anymore. It is so hard to say where I'm going with my life right now. I have dreams, and goals but they seem so far and out of reach, like unattainable dreams. All I'm completely certain of is a God who I love, and who I know, without a doubt, loves me in return.
